Student Supports and Resources

At Saint Mary's, we strive for a living and learning environment that is safe, inclusive and respectful. We aim to develop opportunities for students as they move through their academic career. For black and African descended students, we have compiled a list of supports and resources within SMU and the broader Halifax community.

The Counselling Centre is located on the fourth (4th) floor of the O’Donnell Hennessey Student Centre. Services offered through the Counselling Centre include individual counselling for Saint Mary's students who are registered and attending classes for the current academic semester, peer based support (annually from September to April) and educational programming, among other services and resources.

The Health Clinic is located on the fourth (4th) floor of the O'Donnell Hennessey Student Centre. The dedicated team offers family practice services to Canadian, International Saint Mary's students and alumni up to one year after graduation.

The Writing Centre provides free academic communication support for students, faculty, staff and alumni. They offer tutoring for individuals, groups, workshops, in-class presentations and online support you can follow at your own pace. Book an appointment with a writing tutor.

Saint Mary's University provides accessibility resources, services and accommodations for students registered with the Fred Smithers Centre for Student Accessibility. These supports are available to reduce possible barriers and help students achieve their academic and career goals.
